Summer holidays. Business travel. Last minute workouts. Life is busy. We understand.  We get it! I find road trips and time off to be a good time to reflect. As I walk the beach or walk a trail, I find it a good time to think. We want to help. In the past year we’ve published 32 reports; but this past February, we heard from a Supply Chain Leader that loved our reports and said , “It would be great to hear the research in a podcast format to enable quick sound bytes for my morning runs.”  We love this type of feedback. The team…

Announcing the Supply Chain Index

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

This month, the Supply Chain Insights team will announce the Supply Chain Index. The Supply Chain Index is a formulaic representation of supply chain excellence based on market valuations. It will be launched on a webinar on April 25, 2013 and through a report that will run in our May newsletter. Here, we would like to share insights on the Index and how we intend to use it. How was it developed? Over the course of the last year, Abby Mayer of the Supply Chain Insights team built a database of 20 years of information and over 50 supply chain financial ratios. To understand…

Why Training?

By | Big data supply chains, Supply Chain, Supply chain excellence | No Comments

The options for supply chain training abound. Today, it seems that nearly everyone has a training program. This includes organizations like APICS, CSCMP, IBF, Accenture Academy, and the Supply Chain Council. So, why would Supply Chain Insights offer training? The reason is simple. It is because clients have asked us to provide it. They want a training course for supply chain leaders that allows actionable insights based on independent, objective research. In the new training course that we have developed, participants will gain insights from the first thirty years of supply chain practices. Through a series of experiential activities, and a look at corporate…

Helping You Build Supply Chain Talent.

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

“It used to be easy to hire a supply chain planner. Today, the positions are open 9-10 months, and they are tough to fill.  I need to be able to build my own talent, but I just do not have the time. Would you consider helping me?” Supply Chain Vice President We have heard the cry. This week, we are launching a new program to help companies build and retain mid-management supply chain talent. It is a two-day concentrated workshop. We have scheduled three public training sessions in:  Chicago, IL;  Dallas TX; and Princeton, NJ. The sessions are limited to twenty-five…

One Year!

By | SCI Community, Supply chain excellence, Supply Chain Index, Supply chain planning | 5 Comments

It has been one year.  We founded Supply Chain Insights on February 9th, 2012. One year later, we are an eight person team. Supply Chain Insights is a true bootstrap startup. The team of Mikey, Jill, Constance, Heather, Abby, Naomi, Regina and I have all worked together to deliver a year of firsts. We have laughed, worked hard, celebrated each success and tried to fail forward.  This would not have happened without a committed team. I am proud that we have published 24 reports, completed 14 quantitative research studies and have had over 72,000 views of our work on Slideshare. We also built…

The year is almost behind us. The company, Supply Chain Insights, is now in full gear. We are a small, focused team that’s serious about supply chain research. As we regroup and reflect on 2012, I give thanks to the 35 customers that have supported our startup efforts over the last year. I remain firmly committed to the Open Content research model and love seeing the readership and the overwhelming response to what we are writing and sharing on SlideShare. I believe that there are far too many firms in the market that have research in their name, but not in their business…

We Thank You All

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

It is the end of the year. We have been in business for the last ten months, and I think that it is a good time to reflect and give thanks.  Supply Chain Insights is a small, focused team of nine people, and we remain committed to our mission to serve the line-of-business supply chain leaders so they have a voice and a place to turn to understand advances in supply chain excellence.  In closing the year, we give thanks for: The opportunity. We give thanks for our customers. It is our goal to be the easy to do business…

Open Content Research Recipe

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Cooks share recipes freely; and computer scientists design open-source software to be widely distributed. The open sharing of this content does not preclude a commercial model for either. Open Content research is similar. Historically, the selling of research has been a small revenue stream for the more traditional analyst companies. Each are frozen in these more traditional models. A new analyst firm, like Supply Chain Insights, does not have these handcuffs. We are free to test new models and push the boundaries. We are having fun. Today, we published our 14th report in eight months. Research is at the center…

Foot is Stepping off the Curb…

I had a great discussion this week with a supply chain leader on the launch of the training that coincides with the release of Bricks Matter on December 24th, 2012. He was excited.  After reviewing the slide deck that I had built for the upcoming IBF conference panel, he wanted to know more about Supply Chain Insights. He loved the slides and the research. As we discussed the roll-out of the Bricks Matter training, he decided to include it in his planning for 2013. Like many supply chain leaders, talent development is on the top of his agenda. In his words, “We started our…

Changing the Model. One Interaction at a Time.

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Hiccup. Hiccup. Hiccup. I was speaking to a client today about the vision for my new analyst firm Supply Chain Insights, and I quickly realized that I had assumed that the clients knew their role in this new model that we are building. They don’t. I am sorry for not being clear. In launching the firm, I have failed to realize is how big of a change this concept is for the user of research from their experiences with a traditional analyst firm.  As I hung up the phone, and thanked my reader for the feedback, I was spurred to write…
