Why Should You Help Us With Research?

By | Supply chain excellence | No Comments

Our philosophy is, “You give to us. We give to You.” This is how our research process works. It is unique. We believe in Open Content. Unlike other analyst firms, we do not believe that research should be locked behind a firewall. When you see us field a research study you will know three things: Confidence. Your responses are held in confidence. We only report the data in aggregate. We never share individual responses or company names. Gain New Insights. We share all of the research widely in our community, Beet Fusion, and on our website. However, if you fill…

2016: A New Year and a New Beginning

By | Supply chain excellence | No Comments

Supply Chain Insights is now four years old. The company was created in February 2012. At our core we are actively trying to redefine the analyst model to be friendlier, more insightful, and complete for the supply chain leader. We endorse the concepts of open content, and share research as we build it through newsletters, a global community, our annual event and social media. At a principle level we believe that when people give to us that we should give to them. So as we celebrate our fourth anniversary and start our fifth year in operation, please do us a…

A Personal Invitation

By | Supply chain excellence | No Comments

Today, I am excited to announce the launch of a community to help the supply chain professional. The community is open, available for all to share content, and engage in two-way dialogue in a meaningful way. Over the last six months we have pre-populated content—videos, podcasts, infographics, maturity models, and research studies—to spark impactful conversations. The community is currently in Open Beta. What does this mean? We are refining the workflows and functionality of this community, and we need your help to kick the tires and take it to the next level. We believe it is time to open the…

Driving Research Excellence

By | Supply chain excellence | No Comments

Pumpkin lattes. Colored leaves lining the streets. Frost on the car windows in the morning. No doubt about it, fall is here. I love the crisp air and blue skies of fall. For me, the fall season is a good time to reflect and start new things.  The rhythm of starting new things in September started for me in my school days. I was always excited when it was time to go back to school. I am stimulated by learning. I love the smell of new books, writing with a new sharp pencil, and beginning to learn something new. As…

Why Training?

By | Big data supply chains, Supply Chain, Supply chain excellence | No Comments

The options for supply chain training abound. Today, it seems that nearly everyone has a training program. This includes organizations like APICS, CSCMP, IBF, Accenture Academy, and the Supply Chain Council. So, why would Supply Chain Insights offer training? The reason is simple. It is because clients have asked us to provide it. They want a training course for supply chain leaders that allows actionable insights based on independent, objective research. In the new training course that we have developed, participants will gain insights from the first thirty years of supply chain practices. Through a series of experiential activities, and a look at corporate…

One Year!

By | SCI Community, Supply chain excellence, Supply Chain Index, Supply chain planning | 5 Comments

It has been one year.  We founded Supply Chain Insights on February 9th, 2012. One year later, we are an eight person team. Supply Chain Insights is a true bootstrap startup. The team of Mikey, Jill, Constance, Heather, Abby, Naomi, Regina and I have all worked together to deliver a year of firsts. We have laughed, worked hard, celebrated each success and tried to fail forward.  This would not have happened without a committed team. I am proud that we have published 24 reports, completed 14 quantitative research studies and have had over 72,000 views of our work on Slideshare. We also built…

Smile More and Enjoy the Journey

The year is almost behind us. The company, Supply Chain Insights, is now in full gear. We are a small, focused team that’s serious about supply chain research. As we regroup and reflect on 2012, I give thanks to the 35 customers that have supported our startup efforts over the last year. I remain firmly committed to the Open Content research model and love seeing the readership and the overwhelming response to what we are writing and sharing on SlideShare. I believe that there are far too many firms in the market that have research in their name, but not in their business…

Why a Community?

By | Social supply chains, Supply chain excellence | No Comments

I have thought about this for a long time. I have envisioned a community where supply chain professionals could network freely and globally. I wanted to design a virtual environment where teams can share best practices and have fun. My dream was to build a place that combines the best of the virtual communities of Linkedin, Facebook, Craigslist, FourSquare and Yelp and roll it into a business-to-business social community that is specially designed for the supply chain leader. My Field of Dreams. If I Build it Will They Come? I love the movie Field of Dreams. It is about an Iowa corn farmer, that after hearing…

Serving the Industry

By | Supply chain excellence | No Comments

I am convinced that we know supply chain management matters, but that we do not have hardcore data to support it.  I also believe that the supply chain is a complex system with complex processes with increasing complexity.  The system has finite trade-offs that companies know empirically, but don’t understand mathematically.  The supply chain index is designed to help companies better understand the effective frontier.  To better understand supply chain excellence, we are doing three things:1) Financial Data.  When I started Supply Chain Insights, I hired a researcher to collect and harmonize balance sheet data for the key industries for the last…
