The Supply Chain Index - Evaluating the Industrial Value Network

RESEARCH OVERVIEW:

  • Report Details: This report is based on analysis of financial balance sheet and income statement data for the period of 2006-2013 and cooperative research conducted with Arizona State University.
  • Objective: To apply the Supply Chain Index methodology to 5 industries comprising the industrial value network.
  • Hypothesis: Industries composing the industrial value chain lag other industries in terms of supply chain maturity. Automotive, semiconductor and consumer electronics manufacturers as well as automotive suppliers and contract manufacturers struggle with thin margins and a downstream orientation. Contract manufacturers which are an integral part of the value network lack resiliency and endanger sustained supply chain operations for many. The Supply Chain Index is a new tool members of this value network can use to benchmark and objectively measure supply chain improvement over a specific time period.
